Spring Lake Heights Man Appointed Acting County Warden

Barry Nadrowski takes over for retired Brian Elwood

A Spring Lake Heights man begins work this week in a new role as warden of the Monmouth County jail.

Barry Nadrowski, who previously was the deputy warden of the Monmouth County Correctional Institution, was appointed acting warden and began the role Tuesday.

Nadrowski takes the reigns from previous warden Brian Elwood, who announced his retirement after serving as warden since 2011. Elwood had served 25 years in corrections, according to the county.

Monmouth County Sheriff Shaun Golden praised Elwood and said he's comfortable working with Nadrowski:  “It was an honor to have Brian Elwood serve as warden,” said Golden in a prepared statement. “Acting Warden Nadrowski is a dedicated law enforcement professional, and I’m confident his leadership and commitment to excellence will ensure that MCCI remains one of the top law enforcement facilities in the country.”

Nadrowski said he's dedicated to the tasks ahead.

“It’s my honor and privilege to take on the role of acting warden at this outstanding institution,” said Nadrowski in a prepared statement. “I look forward to the challenges and will be dedicated to continue to operate a safe and secure facility for the inmates and correctional staff.”

Nadrowski, of Spring Lake Heights, began his career at the county jail in 1992 and rose through the ranks. In his previous roles he's focused on administrative operations, intake release, security, facility affairs and programs. He's served as a liaison to federal agencies and was involved in the county's obtaining and maintaining national accreditation from the American Correctional Association.
