Spring Lake Cyclist Killed in Howell Hit and Run

The accident occurred Wednesday at 2 p.m.

Howell Township police are searching for the driver who fled the scene of a fatal hit and run Wednesday afternoon.

Charles McHugh, 58, of Spring Lake was riding his bicyclist on Herbertsville Road near Blewetts Recycling when he was struck from behind by a vehicle traveling south, police said. The car then fled the scene, heading toward Brick or Wall.

The car is described as a 1990s black four-door Toyota with silver accents on the fender. The passenger's side headlight should be damaged by the impact with yellow paint transfer from the bicycle. The window and passenger's side A pillar were also likely damaged.

The photo shows a portion of the damaged headlight left behind.

Howell police are seeking information regarding the crash at 732-938-4111.
