Route 138 Accident Closes Roadway After Passenger Ejected From Car

A two-vehicle accident shuttered Route 138 for three hours Sunday after a passenger was ejected from a vehicle in the crash.

Wall Police Sgt. Chad Clark said the accident at 4:38 p.m. Sunday at Route 138 and Allenwood Road involved two vehicles: a Chevy Blazer and Toyota FJ Cruiser traveling in the east bound lane of Route 138.

John Lecorchick, 40 of Howell was driving the Blazer when he collided with Daniel C. Alpaugh, 58 of Spring Lake Heights. The Toyota FJ Cruiser was also occupied by Patricia Romano, 56 of Spring Lake Heights.

The collision caused Lecorchick's Blazer to overturn, ejecting Lecorchick, said Clark.

He was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune by Wall Township First Aid Squad and MONOC Paramedics with serious injuries.  Alpaugh and Romano were also transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center with minor injuries.

State Hwy 138 east was shut down for approximately 3 ½ hours and traffic was diverted with the assistance of the New Jersey Department of Transportation Emergency Response Unit. 

The collision is currently under investigation by the Wall Township Police Department and the Monmouth County Serious Collision Analysis Response Unit.
