Police Respond To Bear Sighting In North Wall

No bear was found despite extensive search, police said

Five police officers were dispatched to the area near the North Wall Little League complex late Wednesday afternoon responding to a reported bear sighting.

Police extensively searched the area around 5:18 p.m. but did not find a bear, which a witness described as standing about 4-feet tall with black fur, Sgt. Steven Wolter said.

Wall Township is considered a bear habitat by the New Jersey Division of Fish & Game and although they are rare, bear encounters are possible, Wolter said.

If you encounter a bear, do not approach it. Most bears will naturally shy away from people, Wolter said. Contact police immediately at (732) 449-4500.

They live in wall. Had one in my yard just a few years ago. OMG. A deer would charge a human long before a slow moving lazy black bear would even think about moving. LOL! I hope we see more!

Black bears are not dangerous towards humans, they are usually skiddish of people and loud noises. Bears are wonderful creatures and people should not fear them. We have destroyed so much of their natural habitat I am not surprised a black bear found its way into Wall.
