Police: Lock Up Your Bikes

Two bikes stolen from Manasquan resident's front lawn, police say

Manasquan Police are reminding residents to keep their bicycles locked up safely as the department investigates the theft of two bikes reportedly taken from a resident's front lawn.

Two girls last week had parked their bikes on the lawn of a Stockton Lake Boulevard residence before going inside the house, and when they returned 20 minutes later the bikes were gone, Chief Elliott Correia said.

One of the bikes is a girls Trex mountain bike, two-tone gray, with a black seat, black hand grips and a black seat pouch.

The second is as a black Rally cruiser, black light housing on the handle bars, black seat, hand grips and a black lock around the frame.

Both bikes were unlocked at the time of the theft, Correia said.

Correia said that bike thefts in the borough occur "way too often" and are typically a "crime of opportunity."

"It's a reminder to people that even if they're in your yard, they're not necessarily safe from somebody," Correia said.

Residents should keep their bikes chained up or stored inside a garage or shed to prevent thefts, Correia suggested.

Patrolman Michael Tischio is investigating the incident, which occurred May 16.

Correia said anyone with information may contact borough police at 732-223-1000.
