St. Rose High School Teen Struck By Car On 8th Avenue

Accident occurred at around 1:30 p.m., police said.

A St. Rose High School girl was struck by a car while crossing a street Wednesday afternoon, police said.

The 14-year-old female student was crossing north to south on 8th Avenue when she was struck by a car traveling eastbound through a green light at Main Street around 1:30 p.m.

The girl, whose name is not being released because of her age, was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune Township, with a head injury, Sgt. Sean Pringle said.

There was no immediate word on the girl's condition.

Both St. Rose High School, on 7th Avenue, and the neighboring grammar school on 6th Avenue had a scheduled early dismissal day Wednesday and numerous students were in the area during the time of the accident.

The accident is under investigation.
