NJ Transit Identifies Man Killed By Train Tuesday

A Neptune man has been identified as the man killed by an NJ Transit train during the afternoon commute Tuesday.

Abdul Clackley, 51, ran in front of a southbound train in the area of 6th Avenue in Asbury Park Tuesday around 4 p.m., NJ Transit spokeswoman Nancy Snynder said.

Clackley laid down on the tracks and made no attempt to move away from the oncoming train, which was unable to stop, Snynder said.

The incident shut down train service in both directions between Long Branch and Bay Head. Buses were called in to ferry people to stops between the two shore towns.

Two trains were canceled -- the 6:52 p.m. from Long Branch and the 5:47 p.m. train from Bay Head. Train service was restored around 7 p.m.
