Newark Man Arrested With Alleged Stolen Handgun in Brielle

Picked up with fully-loaded .45 caliber semi-automatic

A Newark man was arrested Thursday in Brielle and charged with illegal possession of a stolen handgun, documents show. 

Maurice Howard, 20, of Peshine Avenue, is scheduled to make his initial appearance in Monmouth County Superior Court Friday facing charges of second-degree unlawful possession of a handgun and third-degree possession of stolen property, the criminal complaint says. 

Howard was picked up by Brielle Police with a Kimber Custom II .45 caliber semi-automatic handgun fully loaded with eight rounds, the complaint says.

Howard also is alleged to have known the gun was, or might have been, stolen, the complaint says. 

Both alleged charges are indictable offenses, the complaint says.

Howard's bail was set at $50,000 with no ten-percent option, records show. 

He is scheduled to make his initial Superior Court appearance in Freehold at 12 p.m. Friday.
