Monmouth County Man Arrested In Connection With St. Patrick's Day Shooting

A Monmouth County man has been arrested in connection with a March 17 shooting incident in Neptune, Acting Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni announced Tuesday.

Omar Jackson, 21, of Neptune was arrested and charged Monday evening in connection with the shooting of Sean O’Rourke, 19, of Asbury Park.

Jackson is being held in the Monmouth County Correctional Institution, Freehold Township, on $650,000 bail with no 10 percent option.

Superior Court Judge Katie A. Gummer also required a bail source hearing be held before Jackson can be released, and ordered no victim contact.

Neptune Township Police Department responded to two 911 calls around 8:03 p.m. on Monday, March 17 reporting a shooting in the 300 block of Myrtle Avenue in the township.

Upon patrols’ arrival, police found O’Rourke suffering from a single gunshot wound. He was subsequently transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center for life-threatening injuries.

A joint investigation by the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office and Neptune police determined Jackson fired the gunshot that struck the victim.  As a result of information learned during the investigation, authorities charged Jackson with attempted murder, possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a weapon.

If convicted of the first degree crime of Attempted Murder, the maximum potential custodial sentence is a state prison term of up to 20 years, subject to the provisions of the No Early Release Act (NERA), requiring him to serve 85 percent of the sentence imposed before becoming eligible for release on parole.

The case is assigned to Monmouth County Assistant Prosecutor Matthew Bogner.
