Brick Township's John B. Benedetto faces third-degree eluding charge

A Brick man who allegedly fled from police and jumped into the Manasquan River on Sunday is scheduled to appear in Brielle municipal court today at 1 p.m., documents show.

John B. Benedetto, 46, faces one count of third-degree eluding after, authorities say, he fled from the scene on foot and jumped into the Manasquan River after being approached by borough police investigating reports he was soliciting for a charity, documents show and officials have said.

Benedetto was aprehended by the marine division of the State Police just after 9 p.m. Sunday, authorities have said. APP.com broke the story earlier this week.
