Man Charged In Wall With Stalking, Weapons Once Saluted As Cancer Survivor, Researcher

A 24-year-old Warren man arrested in Wall last week on stalking and weapons possession charges has been saluted for being a cancer survivor, a strong advocate and now a researcher at the Cancer Institute of New Jersey.

Scott Sivco, 24, was accused Wednesday of being in possession of the alleged victim's photograph, personal information, as well as a hunting knife and two wooden batons.

In addition, Sivco allegedly engaged in conduct directed at the alleged victim that would "cause a reasonable person to fear for safety," police said.

The alleged victim is a Wall Township Police Officer and his identity will not be released at this time, police said. In addition, a photograph of Sivco will not be released at this time.

Sivco  was charged with stalking, a crime of the fourth degreel possession of prohibited weapons and devices (wooden baton), crime of the fourth degree, unlawful possession of weapons (knife), crime of the fourth degree.

In June 2011, Sivco gave the opening speech at the America Cancer Society Relay for Life event at Watchung Hills Regional.

As he put it then, he's a cancer survivor, a strong advocate and had become a researcher at the Cancer Institute of New Jersey.

Sivco was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma when he was 10. After treatment, he was able to enjoy life as a healthy teen at Watchung Hills Regional, attend Rutgers—where he graduated with a degree in bio-medical engineering, and launch his career as a researcher.

"I'm doing research on the third floor (at the CINJ); I got treated on the first floor," he said in 2011, adding he had cultivated his first cancer cells for study earlier in the day.

The stalking allegedly took place from Monday, April 7, to  Wednesday, April 23.

Sivco was released after posting bail. Bail was set by Municipal Court Judge Joseph Defino, $3,000 bail with a 10 percent option.

Sivco was previously charged by the Wall Township Police Department on August 14 with driving while intoxicated.
