Garbage Truck Catches Fire in Manasquan

Crews quickly extinguish blaze on Route 71

A garbage truck fire was extinguished on Friday morning.

The Manasquan Fire Department responded to a call for service at approximately 9:34 a.m. at the Dunphey-Smith Company on Route 71 in Manasquan.

Acorrding to Deputy Chief Michael Galos of the Manasquan Fire Department, a truck carrying cardboard and recyclable materials bound for the Marpal Disposal yard in Tinton Falls had to empty its contents onto the parking lot when they caught fire.

The fire was put down and the department cleared the scene within an hour. Marpal Disposal remained to clean the debris.

The fire is not being considered suspicious.

The incident closed Route 71 to vehicular traffic between Sea Girt Avenue and Stockton Lake Boulevard for a short time.
