A significant brush fire torched some bamboo growing behind Spring Lake Heights homes on Route 71.
The brush fire overtook a 100 by 150 foot area of bamboo after 1 p.m., reported the Spring Lake Heights Fire Department. Around 1:30 p.m. the fire had been knocked down and the emergency responders were overhauling the area to make sure all hot spots had been extinguished.
The brush fire slowed traffic along Route 71 during the emergency response.
