Brick Man Now Free, Facing Charges Following River Jump

John B. Benedetto faces eluding count

A Brick man who is suspected of fleeing police and jumping into the Manasquan River on Sunday night appeared in Brielle municipal court Wednesday.

John B. Benedetto, 46, faces one count of third-degree eluding after he fled from the scene on foot and jumped into the Manasquan River after being approached by borough police investigating reports he was soliciting for a charity, documents show and officials have said.

Benedetto was apprehended by the marine division of the State Police just after 9 p.m. Sunday, authorities have said.

Along with his daughter, whose name and age have been withheld by police, Benedetto led borough police on a brief manhunt before the pair jumped off the Route 70 bridge to avoid capture, authorities have said.

Benedetto, who complained of difficulty breathing, was taken to a local hospital, while his daughter swam safely to shore, authorities have said.

A check of jail records early Thursday morning showed Benedetto was no longer being lodged in the Monmouth County Correctional Institution, Freehold. His bail had been previously set at $10,000.

Huh? I've read the article twice and there's no mention of the daughter's condition other than to say she "swam safely to shore."

APP.com has a slightly more detailed article. The girl swam to sure and was released to her mother.

There should be more charges here such as endagering a minor. Someone needs to put their fedora on with the card marked "PRESS" in the hat band and hit the cement for some 411

No they didn't edit the article and I originally made a post at 9:12 this morning and it clearly said the daughter swam to the other side after the PAIR jumped into the water. DOn;t let one negative comment ruin the Patch Charlie :)
