Local Power Outages After Brush Fire

Damage to JCP&L substation causes nearly 1000 outages

A brush fire along Memorial Drive in Bradley Beach Monday afternoon damaged a Jersey Central Power & Light substation along that road, causing power outages for nearly 1000 customers in the borough and neighboring Neptune, a JCP&L spokeswoman said.

The outages occurred at 12:19 p.m. but power was restored about an hour later to all but 79 of the 852 customers affected, Roberta Sheridan said.

The company expects power to be restored to all area customers later Monday afternoon, Sheridan said.

Calls to Bradley Beach Fire Chief J.D. Everett were not immediately returned.

According to emergency communications, the fire seemed to start in the 800 block of Main Street, which eventually took out the substation on Memorial Drive.
