Belmar Police Write 700 Parking Tickets Recently

Summonses increase significantly as early summer traffic put police to work

Belmar police wrote more than 700 parking tickets during the first two weeks of summer, documents show. 

According to a department release, borough police from June 18 to July 1 issued 701 parking summonses and 103 moving violation summonses.

That's a considerable increase from the when police wrote 443 parking tickets and issued 86 moving violations.

Summonses for borough ordinance violations also increased during the same period.

Police from June 18 to July 1 issued 325 summonses for offenses such as noise, disorderly conduct and alcohol beverage control violations — an increase of 110 from the previous two weeks, when police issued a total of 215 ordinance summonses.

One of the most significant increases in ordinance violations seems to be public urination/lewdness — which nearly doubled from the previous two-week period. 

Police issued 49 summonses for lewdness/urinating between June 18 and July 1 — up 23 from the previous two-week period then police issued 26 summonses. 

Summonses for Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) violations, 134 from 84, and disorderly conduct, 50 from 30, also increased significantly from the previous two-week period. 

Beach and boardwalk-related summonses also spiked to 37 from just 13 the previous two-week period. 

Belmar police issued the following summonses between June 18 and July 1:

Motor Vehicle Summonses: 804

  • Moving Violations: 103
  • Parking Violations: 701

Borough Ordinance Summonses: 325

  • Noise: 23
  • Housing: 32
  • ABC (alcoholic beverage control): 134
  • Beach/Boardwalk: 37
  • Lewdness/Urinating: 49
  • Miscellaneous/Disorderly: 50
