Belmar Police Arrest Three on Drug Charges

Borough resident arrested for third time this month

Belmar police last month arrested three individuals in separate incidents on alleged drug charges, including heroin possession, authorities said. 

During the second-half of August, borough police charged two Belmar residents and one Newark man with possession of various drugs and paraphernalia, according to a release from Belmar police. 

One of the Belmar residents, Kareem Abou-Gharbia, 31, was picked up by police for the , and , records show.

In his latest arrest, Abou-Gharbia was arrested Aug. 22 at the Belmar train station and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. Special Officer Aaron Lay made the arrest. 

He was also arrested Aug. 4 in the 200 block of Eighth Avenue and charged him with , records show.

The the following day, on Aug. 5, Abou-Gharbia was arrested at Ninth Avenue and Main Street and charged with making terroristic threats and unlawful possession of a weapon, the release says. 

The other individuals arrested on drug charges last month, according to the release, were:

  • Mauro Bernardo, 25, of Newark, was arrested Aug. 22 at Eighth and Ocean Avenues and charged with possession of marijuana. Officer Michael Campbell made the arrest. 
  • Peter Trapani, 20, of Belmar, was arrested Aug. 25 in the 800 block of 13th Avenue and charged with simple assault and possession of heroin. Special Officer Brandon Cox made the arrest.
