Police: Belmar Man Assaults Woman, Cop

Arrested over Memorial Day weekend in the borough; faces charges in Superior Court

A Belmar man this week made his initial appearance in Superior Court facing charges he assaulted a woman in the borough last weekend and then attacked the police officer who tried arresting him, documents show. 

Anthony D. Guzman, 31, of 14th Avenue, is accused of causing bodily injury to an unnamed female victim on Sunday, specifically by grabbing her by the arms and throwing her to the ground, police said. 

Guzman is also charged with resisting arrest and committing aggravated assault on a police officer, police said.

Police say Guzman punched his arresting officer in the back of the head during the arrest. 

Guzman appeared before Superior Court Judge John G. Colannino on Tuesday, documents show.

His bail has been set at $20,000 with no ten percent option, documents show.
