An Arizona man is scheduled to appear in two local municipal courts next week after police say he burglarized a local animal hospital and made off with various prescription drugs.
Police say Christopher R. Haas, 29, of Surprise, Ariz., broke into Belmar Wall Animal Hospital on Belmar Boulevard in Wall and stole vials of ketamine and a narcotic cough syrup, acccording to the criminal complaint.
Haas is scheduled to appear Oct. 18 in Spring Lake Heights municipal court on narcotic possession charges, and Oct. 16 in Wall municipal court on the burglary charges, the complaint says.
Spring Lake Heights police said they found Haas with three vials of ketamine and hydrocodone bitartrate and homatropine methylbromide syrup, which according to the National Institutes of Health is used as a cough syrup and produces a drug dependence similar to morphine. Both are Schedule III narcotics.
Haas also faces disorderly persons offenses for being in possession of a hypodermic needle containing trace amounts of liquid, random pills crushed into a powder intended for improper use, and an unmarked prescription bottle containing various pills, the complaint says.
Wall Police charged Haas with burglary, forced entry -- he allegedly broke through a back window -- and theft of controlled substances, the complaint says.
Haas was being held at Monmouth County Jail on a combined $46,500 bail with a 10 percent option on $25,000 tied to the Wall charges, documents show.
