Alleged Bike Thief Nabbed in Belmar

Long Branch man faces charges in Superior Court

A Long Branch man made his first appearance in Superior Court this week on charges he stole a bike and shoplifted candy bars from a convenient store in Belmar, documents show. 

James A. Anderson, 44, of West Columbus Place, was arrested in the borough over the weekend for allegedley stealing a chrome-colored mens Cannondale ten-speed bicycle valued at $1000, the criminal complaint says. 

Anderson, who was found by police with needle-nose pliers/cutters, gloves and a flashlight in his possession, also faces charges he shoplifted four Payday candy bars from a 7-Eleven, the complaint says.

The incidents occured on Sunday, April 29, the complaint says. 

Anderson, who appeared before Superior Court Judge John G. Colannino in Tuesday in Freehold, faces two disorderly persons charges and third-degree theft stemming from the alleged crimes, documents show.

His bail was set $2500 with no 10 percent option, the complaint says.
