Melvin Burdge, 96, Air Force Captain, Funeral Director

Visitation and funeral service on Wednesday

Melvin S. Burdge, 96 of Manasquan passed away Sunday April 21 at Ocean Medical Center with his wife by his side. Melvin was born and raised in Freehold and had moved to Manasquan in 1949. Melvin was a licensed funeral director for 46 years working for Floyd T. Brown Funeral Home, Robert C. Neary Funeral Home and Neary-Quinn Funeral Home before his retirement in 1995. Melvin was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He served from 1941 – 1945 in the 11th Air Force in Alaska, Elmendorf Field Anchorage Alaska as adjutant of the Alaska Air Depot, and the Western Aleutian Islands. Melvin was a captain at the time of his discharge. He a member of the Wall United Methodist Church, Spring Lake Heights, a former member of the Wall Lodge #73 F&AM, and a member of the Manasquan Camera Club.

Melvin is survived by his wife Patricia of Manasquan; five nephews Howard J. Holloway of Laurens, SC, Larry J. Holloway of Jackson, NJ, Richard L. Holloway of Powder Springs, GA, George Lloyd III of Tennessee and Jon M. Lloyd of Brick, NJ; two nieces Sharon Burdge of Clarksburg, NJ and Karen Sakker of North Carolina. Melvin was predeceased by a sister Betty Lloyd.

Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Wednesday April 24 from 10 until 11:30 am. The funeral service will begin at 11:30 am at the Orender funeral home. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Brielle.
