Ocean Medical Center to Host Skin Cancer Safety Talk

Now that summer is upon us and the weather is sunny and warm, many of us want to spend as much time outside as possible. It is especially important to consider skin health when spending time outdoors during the summer months, however.

 Because of this, Ocean Medical Center will hold a Skin Cancer Safety event on August 7. Led by Avery Kuflik M.D., a board-certified dermatologist, this talk will focus on sun safety tips, skin changes to look for, and other important factors related to good skin health.

More than 2 million Americans are expected to be diagnosed with non-melanoma skin cancer this year alone. It is estimated that an additional 76,000 people in the U.S. will be diagnosed with melanoma this year as well.

To help prevent the development of skin cancer and other sun exposure-related conditions, heed the following sun safety tips: limit your time outside when the sun’s rays are strongest, between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.; apply sunscreen rated at least SPF 15 every two hours; and wear a brimmed hat and sunglasses when spending time in the sun.
