After A Year Off, Turkey Trot Is On For Saturday

The annual pre-Thanksgiving run and after party canceled last year in the wake of Superstorm Sandy, is back on the schedule and ready to step off on Saturday.

The 30th annual Turkey Trot 5-mile and 1-mile run is set to begin Saturday. The annual event was interrupted last year after Sandy left the normally placid beach course dangerous and impassible in some places.

Thousands are expected to take to the streets for the charity run, sponsored by the Jersey Shore Running Club. The 1-mile run steps off from First Avenue and Brielle Road at 10 a.m. while the 5-mile feature run starts an hour later.

Both groups finish at Second and Ocean Avenues. Prizes are awarded to top finishers in each age category.

All proceeds from the Turkey Trot will be donated to area charities and nonprofit organizations.
