Democrats Sweep Two Council Seats In Belmar Election

Democrats swept both seats in the Belmar Council election Tuesday.

In preliminary tallies, Democratic incumbent Brian Magovern was the top vote-getter with 1,171 votes, or 29.59 percent. Magovern's running mate, Janis Keown-Blackburn received 1,071 votes, or 27.07 percent, according to Monmouth County figures.

Republican David Schneck received 838 votes, or 21.18 percent, while his running mate, Thomas Burke, garnered 873 votes, or 22.06 percent.

Council President Claire Deicke chose not to seek re-election.
