Water Level Rising From Belmar Outfall Pipe Collapse

Ocean Avenue between 5th and 6th Avenue was closed due to rising water levels at Silver Lake in Belmar.

An apparent collapse of an outflow pipe was preventing the lake to drain, causing its water level to rise after storm runoff filled the lake late Tuesday night.

Ocean Avenue was closed so pumps could run from the lake shore to the ocean, where flexible pipes dumped the lake water.

Belmar public works crews remained on the scene and the road closure is scheduled through today do repair the outflow pipe under the roadway.

Detours were in effect since Wednesday afternoon, when two pumps were put in place.
