State Wrap: Children Die in Newark Fire, NJ Woman Wounded in Batman Shooting

A 3-year-old girl, 4-year-old boy, believed to be siblings, died in a rear apartment on the third floor, while a 6-year-old girl, a teenager and a man died in the front apartment on the same floor of the building, fire officials said. The mother of the two children who died in the front apartment was giving birth at a nearby hospital on the day of the fire, officials told NJ.com.

A 23-year-old Sussex County woman was among the 70 injured when a gunman opened fire and killed 12 people early Friday morning at a movie theater screening of the new Batman movie in Aurora, Colo.

Essex County College Student Killed by NJ Transit Bus

A 22-year-old Essex County College student was killed by an NJ Transit Bus Thursday in Bloomfield. The preliminary investigation indicates Johnson was rushing to catch the bus to get to his job when he was struck and killed.

Amid student protests, the Rutgers University Board of Governors voted this week to increase tuition, fees and room and board costs for the 2012-13 school year by 2.2 percent.
