Volunteers wanted for semi-annual beach cleanup

Volunteers are encouraged to help keep local beaches clean when the Manasquan Environmental Commission holds its semi-annual beach sweep on April 21.

The sweep will run from 9 am. to 12:30 p.m., rain or shine, with volunteers asked to register in person at the Main Street Beach pavilion. Light refreshments will be served.

The commission also will collect non-perishable foodstuffs for the Ocean and Monmouth County Food Bank at the beach sweep.

The borough also would like residents to be reminded of the following:

  • The Department of Public Works will pick up leaves and brush from April 9 to 13.

Leaves can be raked into the street, while brush must be stacked on the curb. Grass clippings will not be picked up.

  • Residents may experience discolored water from April 16 to 27, when the Department of Public Works will flush fire hydrants.

Although the discoloration is harmless, it can be eliminated by simply letting the faucets run until it turns clear.
