Outages Winding Down, But 1400 Still Without Power

Nearly 800 Bradley Beach customers waiting for electricity to come back

The past several days of extreme heat have caused power outages for many Jersey Central Power and Light customers, which began Saturday afternoon and extended into the evening.

Roughly 1400 Central Jersey customers were still without power at 8:30 p.m. Saturday, according to Gerry Ricciardi, a JCP&L spokesman.

More than half of those customers were located in Bradley Beach, Ricciardi said.

A total of 790 customers in Bradley Beach have been without power after a tree fell into a backyard power line and another wire came down on McCabe Avenue, Ricciardi said.

The company expects to have power restored by 9:30 p.m., Ricciardi said.

The lights are back on for all JCP&L customers in Belmar, while 16 Mansquan customers are still waiting for their power to be restored, Ricciardi said.

Earlier Saturday, JCP&L reported as many as 2,000 customers in both Monmouth and Ocean counties without power.

A representative for JCP&L could not be reached for comment at the time, but a recorded message indicated that the company was aware of the outages and crews were working to restore service.

JCP&L had hoped to have power restored to the majority of its customers by 3 p.m.

Monmouth County customers in Asbury Park, Atlantic Highlands, Belmar, Bradley Beach, Eatontown, Freehold, Hazlet, Highlands, Manasquan, Middletown, Monmouth Beach, Rumson, Sea Girt, Spring Lake, Spring Lake Heights and Tinton Falls were among those experiencing service disruptions.

In Ocean County, the outages extended to Barnegat, Bayville, Beachwood, Brick, Forked River, Jackson, Lanoka Harbor, Lavalette, Normandy Beach, Point Pleasant, Seaside Park, Toms River and Waretown.
