Manasquan HS Accepting Evacuees Sunday

Schools closed Monday; garbage pickup canceled through Tuesday

Manasquan High School will begin taking storm evacuees 12 p.m. Sunday in the gymnasium, officials said Saturday.

Officials, however, recommend evacuees plan to stay with family or friends if possible to help avoid overcrowding already "uncomfortable" local shelters.

The school does not have a back-up power generation system and only portable lights will be available from portable generators, according to a borough release.

Only water will be provided and there is a limited amount of cots, the release says.

Evacuees are being asked to bring their medicines, non-perishable foods, and bedding including sleeping bags and pillows.

Pets will not be accepted at the shelter, the release says.
