Portions of Ocean Avenue Closed in Belmar

Public Works working through weekend pumping Lake Como and Silver Lake

Portions of Ocean Avenue in Belmar will be closed the remainder of the weekend so crews can pump the lakes at both ends of town, officials said.

With the hurricane now expected to impact the area late Monday or early Tuesday, Belmar's Public Works (DPW) will work through the weekend pumping water from Lake Como and Silver Lake into the ocean, according to a borough release.

The DPW will also collect leaves and secure the beachfront and marina, the release says.

"We ask for your assistance in preparing for the storm," the release says.

Officials ask residents to take all necessary steps to secure their homes and properties including clearing storm basins.

Leaves and branches should be kept at the rear of each property, the release says.

Please hold any bulk trash items until after the storm event is over.
