July 25th a Key Date for Home Design and Renovation Projects Says Award-Winning Designer Bridget McMullin

Haddonfield, NJ – Home décor and renovation projects take time and attention. Many home owners want projects completed in time for the November and December holidays. Haddonfield-based certified interior designer Bridget McMullin advises that ‘Christmas in July’ – July 25th is a critical date for planning those new projects.

“If you sit down and plan with a designer and contractor by July 25th, you’ll be sure to have a happy holiday season in your newly designed home space,” says McMullin, owner of The McMullin Design Group and B Company design showroom located at 7 N. Haddon Avenue in Haddonfield, NJ.

McMullin says homeowners often call just after Labor Day in hopes of getting a major project underway and completed in time for Thanksgiving or the winter holidays. “They are often disappointed since many designers and contractors are already booked.”

McMullin says whether the project is a design overhaul of a home space or a complex renovation; there are key steps in the process.

1.     Be organized. A good contractor will not start a project until ALL the materials are in. For example, cabinets can take up to ten weeks to receive.   Make a timeline: start with your project goal date and work back including all the items needed to complete the project.  Add time for designing the space and you should have a good idea of how much time is needed to get your project completed.

2.   Be flexible.  Even though you have a goal date for completion, flexibility and creativity to make everything happen are keys.  For example, a backordered plumbing fixture can hold up an entire project; prioritize and decide if those elements are important enough to hold up your project.

3.     Schedule a professional contractor/design expert today. Planning is the key to make any home renovation run smoothly and on time. These experts plan your project according to your deadline and coordinate the project with their client schedule.   A little money spent on the right people can make a world of difference when it comes to fixing mistakes on the back end of a project.
