Horizon Foundation for New Jersey Grants $20,000 to Support Our Health Equity Programs

The American Conference on Diversity is honored to receive a grant of $20,000 from longtime supporter The Horizon Foundation for New Jersey to present two signature healthcare professional-development programs aimed at helping physicians, healthcare professionals, and health-system administrators close the disparities gap among the state’s increasingly diverse patient population.

“The support and commitment of The Horizon Foundation for New Jersey to bridge the health disparities gap over the years has allowed the American Conference on Diversity to work with hundreds of New Jersey’s healthcare professionals and provide quality trainings to enhance the cultural competency and respect the humanity of people of different races, cultures, and religions,” says Elizabeth Williams-Riley, President and CEO of the American Conference on Diversity.

New Jersey residents speak more than 130 different languages, with more than 26 percent speaking primarily a language other than English. The complexity of languages, cultures, faiths, and healthcare practices can be overwhelming to healthcare professionals and the settings in which they practice, which is why the American Conference on Diversity healthcare-training programs are so important. To date, the American Conference on Diversity has worked with more than 80 percent of acute healthcare facilities throughout New Jersey to fulfill this mission.
