WRAT Looking to Move Radio Tower

The Lake Como radio station is making plans for a much larger broadcasting tower

WRAT radio is looking to boost its broadcasting capabilities in a move that could be met with some static from local residents.

The radio station 95.9 "The Rat" hopes to build a new, 530-foot tower in the area between Lake Como's Pazienza Park and Spring Lake's Marucci Park. The station's current Main Street Lake Como tower is only 150 feet.

An informal meeting, which has yet to be scheduled, will be held on the application. Residents will be given a chance to ask questions and voice concerns over the application at that time.

Since the proposed construction site is on recreational land, it will require the approval of the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection's Green Acres program.

In addition to the tower, the plans call for a small out building to house communication equipment.
