Spring Lake Businesswoman Supports Haitian Women— Literally

Lingerie shop owner supports Haitian women through bra donation drive

In the peaceful, slumbering beach town of Spring Lake - covered in what most hope was winter’s last hurrah - is a brave woman on a mission.

“This is what you call a large bra,” she snickers, hovered over a box full of gently used bras.

Robin Moglia, the proprietor of Linger - a lingerie boutique on Morris Avenue in Spring Lake - began her used bra collection in December of 2010.

“We have almost 100, but we’re shooting for 1,000.”

When asked what defines a gently used bra, Moglia responded that “a gently used bra is one in good condition,” although the materials found in questionably-gentle bras are of some use in the relief efforts in Haiti.

She accepts any well-kept donation, but is clear on the distinction between a good fit and an uncomfortable situation.

"Most women can't wait to get their bra off at night," she explains, “it’s why so many women stock up on t-shirt bras.”

This, however, is Moglia's speciality— finding the balance between beauty and comfort. She also claims to be living proof that beautiful lingerie can be very comfortable if the fit is right.

“I wear it everyday,” she says.

Between the box for Haiti and the back counter is a dazzling selection of underclothing. Most apparent throughout the store is a purposeful selection and how it relates to Robin’s intentions.

"I decided that some people are nervous about fittings and being in lingerie stores. It's why I named it Linger, so people can feel comfortable: linger, hang out, take your time."

The store is set up comfortably, retaining the classiness of a small town boutique without an overwhelming emphasis on sexy. Despite specializing in private fittings, her collection of comfort-only underwear rivals the more provocative collection, which includes panty roses for special occasions and a wall covered in season-specific pieces.

"I like this wall of pretty bras because I'd wear them everyday - and I do - because I have a lingerie problem!"

Unlike other addictions, however, this one supports her life and will soon support women in Haiti— literally.
