St. Vincent De Paul of Belmar Collecting Gift Cards, Frozen Foods for Hurricane Sandy

Collection efforts continue at Church of Saint Rose community

Hurricane Sandy ravaged Belmar and the generosity of those making cash donations, gift card donations and dropping off frozen food is still needed. Items are being collected and will be distributed by St. Vincent de Paul Society of Belmar at St. Rose Church.

The church is one of many listed by the Diocese of Trenton as area Catholic churches organize efforts to continue assistance after Hurricane Sandy. For the full list, click here.

The Diocese of Trenton is coordinating a relief effort to assist those who have been left without basic provisions in the wake of Hurricane Sandy, and dozens of parishes throughout the multiple counties affected by the storm continue to be both drop-off points and distribution centers.

In Belmar, no clothing is being collected, but gift cards and frozen foods are.

St. Vincent de Paul Society has a freezer it uses for items such as turkeys and hams and has been distributing the food locally to those who have come seeking assistance in the weeks after Hurricane Sandy, according to the church.

The church said it is also still collecting gift cards for those in need.

At the Diocese level, financial support is also needed.  Anyone wishing to help support the relief effort may make an online monetary donation at https://www.dioceseoftrenton.org/hurricanerelief#donate

Funds will be distributed to parish-based and other Catholic social service agencies to address the most pressing needs of those impacted by the storm. For more information, write to hurricanerelief@dioceseoftrenton.org or call 609-406-7417.
