Silent Run Speaks Volumes About Sept. 11

Silent run to remember the victims of Sept. 11, 2001.

They ran, at least 400 of them, maybe more, silently across the boardwalk.

The wind made more noise as they passed the gates and into Spring Lake for the first stop to read aloud the names of those from the Jersey Shore who were killed in the attacks.

The annual Sept. 11 memorial run, sponsored by the Jersey Shore Running Club, stepped off from 16th Avenue in Belmar Wednesday, heading south to the finish on the beach in Spring Lake, where members remembered those who were lost in the attacks 12 years ago, finishing with a chorus of "America The Beautiful,'' before leaving minature American flags near a miniature replica of the World Trade Center made from steel of the ill-fated buildings.
