Manasquan Volunteers to Meet Sunday on Hurricane Sandy Projects

Group looking for volunteers

The combined efforts of local churches, schools, residents and more rebuilding Manasquan continues Sunday with a meeting of volunteers hoping to centralize and coordinate the community's needs after Hurricane Sandy.

The group, Manasquan Organization of Volunteer Efforts, will meet 1 p.m. Sunday Jan. 20 at First Presbyterian Church of Manasquan.

MOVE aims to have the diverse groups and inviduals who've been joining forces and organizing will now work to create a long term plan to rebuild the Manasquan community.

"We are seeking volunteers with gifts in many areas to help rebuild... the shore, particularly the towns that comprise the Manasquan High School sending districts," said Mary E. Connors, a volunteer for "SquanStrong" and MOVE.

The organizers are thankful for the immediate outpouring during the emergency of Hurricane Sandy, and during the current and future long-term recovery.

"We are thankful for the many talented and dedicated people and organizations that mobilized immediately after Sandy hit to provide immediate relief, food, shelter, clothing and work crews to individuals who were impacted by the storm," she said.

MOVE met once prior, where the organization's structure and how it would manage the need for volunteers was explained.

"At the first meeting on Sunday, there was a brief presentation on the philosophy behind long term recovery; the organization structure, and a description of how individuals can volunteer to become a part of MOVE," she said.

Sunday's meeting at the First Presbyterian Church, corner of South Street and Virginia Avenue, will aim to create a roster of volunteers and assign them to the areas they are most needed and that they could be best used, based on their talents.

"Volunteers will have an opportunity to join committees according to their gifts and talents and the area where they have a passion to serve," Connors said.
