In Brielle, 9/11 Memories Remain

Memorial site a reminder of wounds still open

A 9/11 memorial site in Brielle, New Jersey contains an unusually vitriolic inscription.

With the message “This site is dedicated to the memory of those who were massacred on September 11, 2011 by the terrorists,” the monument sits in a grassy area amid luxury homes and a country club along the borough’s scenic Riverview Drive. The site also hosts a listing of 13 people who died in the World Trade Towers and on United Air Lines flights 93 and 175.

The monument also contains a Biblical passage from Psalm 25:2, which reads: “Oh my God, in Thee I trust, let me not be put to shame; let not my enemies exult over me.”

Dedicated by the Union Landing Historic Society on the third anniversary of the attacks in 2004, the site stands as a reminder of the anger and resentment that persists among the American public, even ten years later.
