Belmar Seafood Festival Goes On

Despite forecast, annual festival expected to attract thousands

Despite a gloomy forecast, the 25th Annual New Jersey Seafood Festival in Belmar will go on as planned.

Mayor Matt Doherty confirmed by email this morning that the event will not be postponed due to rain.

The New Jersey Seafood Festival is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday in Belmar's Silver Lake Park on Ocean Avenue between 5th and 6th avenues.

The annual celebration features dozens of restaurants and other vendors. The event has seen attendance eclipsing 150,000 in previous years and despite the forecast, a massive turnout is expected again this year.

Live entertainment, a wine tent and children's activities are all scheduled.

Today: A slight chance of showers, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. Cloudy, with a high near 72. East wind around 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. 

Tonight: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 11 p.m. Cloudy, with a low around 67. East wind between 8 and 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. 

Sunday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms before 11 a.m., then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 82. South wind between 10 and 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. 

Sunday Night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms before 2 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 61. Southwest wind 9 to 16 mph becoming north. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
