Belmar Officials Team with FEMA in Outreach to Small Businesses

Belmar officials will conduct a "day of service" on Wednesday in partnership with FEMA, visiting every borough Business to deliver information on disaster preparedness and services, according to Mayor Matthew J. Doherty.

The borough is participating in FEMA’s America’s PreparAthon, a national day of action to educate residents, business owners and officials in communities across the nation about the importance of preparing for a potential disaster.

“This day of service will get Borough officials out of their offices and into the streets, visiting our small businesses door-to-door. Information about Borough services and disaster preparedness will not only help our business to better respond to emergencies and disasters, but strengthen the relationship between the Borough and our business community,” said Doherty.

As borough officials go door-to-door, representatives from FEMA will be on hand to support them in delivering this important information to the community.  The goals of America’s PreparAthon are to encourage Americans to understand what disasters are likely to happen in their community, know what to do to be safe, prepare for future disasters and participate in community resilience planning.

With the summer season just around the corner, Belmar and FEMA’s PerparAthon offers businesses and the larger community an opportunity to learn about the steps that can be taken to prepare for and protect against another natural disaster, the mayor said.
