Algonquin Concert Jan. 5 to Help Rebuild Manasquan

Rising above the devastation; it's a new day — that's the mentality behind a concert Jan. 5 to aid Manasquan. Every ticket dollar will translate to rebuilding efforts for Manasquan.

The "Manasquan: A New Day" concert is scheduled for Jan. 5 and will donate all ticket and ad sales to rebuilding Manasquan.

"The people of Manasquan have chosen not to allow ourselves stay down, but rather rise above and rebuild for a new day. We’ve pulled ourselves up by our bootstraps to get ready for a new year and a better future,” said Manasquan Mayor George Dempsey in a prepared statement.

The 8 p.m. concert is at the Algonquin Arts Theatre, working in conjunction with the Borough of Manasquan. The proceeds specifically go toward the “Manasquan Hurricane Restoration Fund” to help rebuilding Manasquan’s beaches and public facilities.

On the lineup are some talented jazz, rock, dance and musical theatre performers.

“We’re looking forward to working with our community to stage this special evening to mark the continued recovery efforts as 2013 begins,“ said Algonquin Arts Theatre Executive Director William Whitefield. “We’re looking forward to a marquee lineup of performers coming together to both raise needed funds for restoration and – just as importantly – lift the spirit of the community.”

Mayor Dempsey concluded, “What transpired over the last month is nothing short of a miracle. Although we are moving forward, the road to full recovery will take considerable time and money. But there is no doubt in my mind that we will be back and better than before.”

The first line of performers for the premiere relief event has been announced.  The follow artists have committee to donating their time and musical talents for the production of a lifetime for supporters of the Borough of Manasquan.

They include:

Billy Lawlor Band: The Berklee-trained keyboardist and vocalist is in his fourth decade as a mainstay at the Jersey Shore and plans to bring his band to the stage.

Thos Shipley: Award-Winning Jazz Vocalist has headlined a variety of performances from international tours to New York clubs.

Dorian Parreott Trio: Long time Asbury Park High School band director brings his group that in various forms has been a regular on the local jazz scene for decades.

Dave Melillo: A recording singer/songwriter that plays a blend of acoustic guitar-driven rock and has also appeared on the Algonquin stage in The 1940s Radio Hour and The Magical Christmas Horse.
