Kula Cafe in Asbury Park now open weekends

Kula Cafe, the cool, community restaurant offering great food while training young people in the hospitality industry, is now open for breakfast and lunch from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Tuesday through Sunday.

The cafe at 1201 Springwood Ave., Asbury Park, is owned by Interfaith Neighbors and is located in the heart of the west side revitalization.

Initially, when Kula Cafe opened in April, the hours were 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Three graduates  of the 16-week training program now have paid jobs in Asbury Park restaurants, one of the cafe's goals.

Kula Cafe also started the Deep Blue Blues live music nights on alternate Thursdays and that  continues this Thursday, Sept. 5 from 6 to 9 p.m. Al Holmes and the Tribe with special guests will be featured. A $5 donation is requested at the door and a special soul food menu is available.
