Ocean Grove’s annual Christmas tree lighting will take place on Friday, December 2, 2011 at 6 PM in Auditorium Park Square, kicking off the 2011 Christmas season in this historic Victorian seaside community.
This decades-old tradition is a true community affair, and will feature a cornucopia of local performers: Ocean Grove Camp Meeting’s Youth Choir (“Anointed by Hymn”), conducted by Cherie Morton; the cast of “Christmas On Silver Pond,” with a cast of 40 adults, teenagers and children accompanied by Steve Mugglin; and a traditional Christmas carol sing-along led by Rev. James Bassett.
Then at 6:30 pm, the 25-foot Spruce tree in the center of the Square will be lit by eco-friendly LED lighting, as Ocean Grove “goes green” for the holidays. Local stores and restaurants will be open after the tree-lighting to accommodate early holiday shoppers. Everyone is invited to this free, community event.
