DESCRIPTION:Allaire Village\, Inc. presents an 1830&rsquo\;s Temperance R
 ally at The Historic Allaire Village located in Allaire StatePark on Sun
 day\, July 29th\, at 1pm and 2:30pm. This special event focuses on the v
 illagers of the Howell Iron Works Company of the 1830&rsquo\;s and their
  crusade against the evils of &ldquo\;Demon Rum&rdquo\; and immoderation
 . It alsofeatures a Ladies&rsquo\; Temperance Social to celebrate the ad
 vantages of sobriety.&nbsp\; There will be a $5/car parkingfee to the St
 ate Park\; admission to the event is free and there is a charge to enter
  the historic buildings. The Historic Village opens at 12:00 noon and cl
 oses at 4:00 pm.&nbsp\;\nThe Temperance movement grew up with the Indust
 rialRevolution.&nbsp\; Increasing use of machines for manufacturing led 
 to a greater concern for competent and sober workers in America&rsquo\;s
  factories.&nbsp\; But the movement\, whoseoriginal purpose as to shape 
 and more responsible society through moderation of life&rsquo\;s pleasur
 es\, soon grew many branches and encompassed many other social causes.Th
 e fight to rid the land of the dangers of alcohol was becoming more prom
 inent and women began to play a greater role in the crusade by the 1830&
 rsquo\;s.\nOur event begins with a meeting and rally of theHowell Work&r
 squo\;s Temperance Society in the Historic Village and will feature insp
 iring speeches rallying against the horrors of &ldquo\;Demon Rum&rdquo\;
 . Villagers willencourage visitors in the taking of the Temperance oath.
  Visitors are also welcome to participate in 19th century games and amus
 ements with the villagers. &nbsp\;It&rsquo\;s a great day of history and
  family fun. The Bakery and General Store will be open for shopping and 
 refreshments.\nAllaire Village Incorporated is licensed by the State ofN
 ew Jersey to operate the 40-acre Historic Village at Allaire\, site of J
 ames P. Allaire&rsquo\;s Howell Iron Works Company in the 1830&rsquo\;s.
 &nbsp\; Allaire Village\, Inc. receives no state funding towards the edu
 cational programming presented throughout the year\, but is strongly sup
 ported through private donations\, membership fees\, fund-raisingevents 
 and patronage of our retail stores. Allaire Village\, Inc. received an o
 perating support grant from the New Jersey Historical Commission\, a div
 ision of the Department of State. In addition\, funding for our historic
 al events ismade possible in part to a generous grant from the Ocean Fir
 st Foundation.\nThe Historic Village at Allaire is located withinAllaire
  State Park at 4263 Atlantic Avenue\, in Farmingdale\, Monmouth County\,
