Manasquan Borough Council has until May 22 to appoint Grasso's replacement
The list of three potential replacements to fill the Manasquan Borough Council seat vacated last month by former Republican Don Grasso are in, and the governing body has until May 22 to choose just one. Mike Sinneck and Greg Olivera, both running for two council seats in November's general election, are joined by Marilyn Jacobson as the three candidates the Borough Council must decide between and select to finish Grasso's term that expires Jan. 1. If the council selects Sinneck or Olivera, either would enjoy incumbency status, and arguably an advantage, going into November against two newcomer Democratic hopefulls vying for as many seats. Jacobson, if picked, would likely serve out the remainder of Grasso's term before going quietly …

List of names to fill Don Grasso's vacant council seat being finalized
The Manasquan Republican Committee is close to finalizing its list of three names to possibly fill the Borough Council seat vacated by Don Grasso last month, GOP Chairman Rich Dunne said Tuesday. The GOP committee met behind closed doors Monday to discuss the three candidates it will recommend to the governing body at its May 7 meeting, and Dunne said that while the party is still deliberating, the list should be finalized within days. The Borough Council is expected to receive the list of three potential replacements at its next meeting and will have 15 days to elect a new council member by majority vote to finish Grasso's term, which expires at the end of the year. Dunne said that while the list of names floated around at last week's …

Republicans must submit three names to council by May 7
The Manasquan Republican Club on Thursday discussed potential candidates to replace former Councilman Don Grasso's seat on the Borough Council for the remainder of the calendar year. The GOP Committee, comprised of eight district representatives and Chairman Rich Dunne, has until the May 7 Borough Council meeting to submit three names to the governing body, who must select Grasso's replacement within 15 days by majority vote. And while the Republican Club members do not have an official say in picking the three names, they helped Dunne on Wednesday brainstorm and put together a short list of potential candidates. The party's two candidates for the 2012 election, Greg Olivera and Mike Sinneck, are likely to fill two of the spots, but …

Lt. Governor upholds administrative law judge's recommendation
A challenge from two men from Toms River and Wall seeking to remove President Obama's name from New Jersey's upcoming primary ballot has failed. Mario Apuzzo, the attorney representing New Jersey residents Nick Purpura and Ted Moran, said Deputy Director and Administrative Law Judge Jeff Masin recommened against the ballot challenge following a more than three-hour hearing earlier this week. Lt. Gov. and Secretary of State Kim Guadagno upheld the decision earlier this week. The decision, delivered to Apuzzo via email, was not based on the issues presented in the challenge, namely that Obama is not a natural born citizen of the United States and that a birth certificate released by the White House last April is fraudulent, but rather on a …

Two men who are Monmouth and Ocean county residents are challenging President Barack Obama's placement on the state's primary ballot.
Two men who are Monmouth and Ocean county residents are challenging President Barack Obama's place on the state's primary ballot, according to the Bayshore Tea Party Group. Nick Purpura of Wall Township has filed a challenge, along with Ocean County resident Ted Moran, alleging that Obama has never shown adequate proof that he was born in the United States - despite the release of a longform birth certificate by the White House in April of 2011. They also claim that his father was never a citizen of the United States, meaning Obama is not a natural born citizen, at least according to their interpretation of the Constitution. The challenge will be heard by an administrative law judge Tuesday at the Administrative Law Offices in Quakerbridge…

Newcomers look to steal council seats from GOP in November
With the possibility of two open Manasquan Borough Council seats up for grabs this fall, Democratic candidates Peter Pappas and Michele Batista have a chance to give their party complete control of the governing body in November's election. Pappas, a 60-year-old retired teacher, and Batista, a 57-year-old psychotherapist, are both making their first bids for elected office in an election in which the only two Republican-held seats on the council may be vacated by incumbents Patricia Connolly, who has already announced she is not running for reelection, and Don Grasso, a former GOP member who says he is still undecided about seeking another term. Both Democratic candidates said they would work to preserve the town as an attractive shore …
Says he'd restore 'collegial' atmosphere to Squan council
Michael Sinneck, one of two Republican hopefuls vying for possibly as many open seats on the Manasquan Borough Council this fall, said he wants to end the "malarkey" between partisans on the dais. The 64-year-old Cedar Avenue resident — with more than 40 years experience in the information technology sector working for companies such as IBM, Microsoft and Citigroup — said his background would help restore positive discussion between opposing views on the council. With Republican Patricia Connolly bowing out of November's race and Conservative Party member Don Grasso unsure if he'll run for re-election, there will be new blood on the council regardless which party scores the two seats this fall. Both Connolly and Grasso, who recently left …
Belmar Democrat talks past achievements and future goals
Even though Belmar Councilwoman Jennifer Nicolay will have no Republican opponent in November's Borough Council election, the Democrat says she'll still campaign and fundraise like any other local politician. Nicolay is running unopposed in her party's June primary and unless an independent candidate jumps into the race by then she could be uncontested in next fall's council election as well. Nicolay, originally appointed to the council in 2011 to fill a vacancy by newly elected Mayor Matt Doherty, was elected by Belmar voters last November (when she also ran unopposed) to complete the final year of Doherty's unfinished three-year term. When asked, Nicolay said she wasn't sure why she's never had to face a Republican challenger. “Maybe I’…
