North of the Belmar fishing pier, waves crashed high at the first tide around 2:50 p.m. as winds swept over the sand and into the cement of the Ocean Avenue bridge to Avon. A second high tide was 4 a.m. Thursday. A video produced by local film maker Rob Grieb documents the devastation during and immediately after Hurricane Sandy, with particular attention to areas such as the Manasquan Inlet. Stories of surfers in the hours before and of homeowners and business owners in the emergency hours after the devastating storm are highlighted in the eight-minute video. Showing just how homes fared and how residents were allowed back in after evacuation, only to see homes torn asunder by the storm surge. Transitions Productions' 23-minute documentary "East Coast Rising" features local surfers such as Sam Hammer explaining the before, during and after effects of Hurricane Sandy. A look at the devastation, interruption, emergency and continued rebuilding of the storm, through the eyes of the Jersey Shore surf community, is the purpose behind the short film. Speaking in Trenton Wednesday, Gov. Chris Christie blasted Congress for failing to pass a Sandy aid bill the evening prior. Among the organizations devastated by Hurricane Sandy, the Belmar First Aid Squad saw its building as well as its equipment damaged by the storm. As the first aid squad begins to rebuild, the Belmar First Aid Council came to its aid, attempting to spread the word about the squad's need for monetary donations. The last 30 days since Hurricane Sandy pelted Belmar and Manasquan with incredible winds and surging waters have gone from the emergency immediately after to rebuilding and reopening in the weeks since. The Oct. 29 storm impacted so much of the Jersey Shore, while videos taken throughout the boroughs documented the damage and impact, as well as the heartfelt volunteerism and dedicated work of rebulding.
