Great news for Ocean Grove. Wasn't Epic the winning low bidder on Ocean Grove's boardwalk? TheRead Moresame company who was the low bidder who successfully replaced Belmar's boardwalk? The same company who also is the winning low bidder for Belmar's pavilions? Must be a pattern here.

Too bad Long Branch still hasn't replaced their boardwalk

We are glad to see that that you are back up & running_ no politics here. It's just a goodRead Morething for everybody!

Belmar beach bum, you are wrong. Simple as that. I hope people who read this realize this post isRead Morei ncorrect. Why does the patch print this stuff?
Joy DeSanctis June 26, 2014 at 08:29 PM
Sounds right to me, what is wrong?
Mortimer Snerd June 23, 2014 at 07:45 AM
Wrong! We're sending 300 advisors, not a regiment of troops as the Republicans want. We didn'tRead Moresen d troops to fight Russia in Crimea, as the Republicans wanted. Guess which party didn't learn from Vietnam.
Mortimer Snerd June 24, 2014 at 02:06 PM
300 soliders with rifles wouldn't do much. The Republican/Tea Party hawks want us to send 30,000Read Moretr oops. No thanks.

That's the exact point, that law is already in place! Which we do already use for all bidding, andRead MoreG C's will meet the prevailing wage/union rates. But the Mayor created a special ordinance entitled "responsible bidder" adding the "specific apprenticeship requirement" thus reducing the pool of eligible contractors able to bid. Last time I checked all unions administrate an internal apprenticeship program, so why create anything additional.

Even so, regardless of ordinance, revised ordinance(s) or not, what does this have to do withRead Moreprivat e contractors at someone's house? Public funds on public projects (usually) go to public bid. This article is about his house, and I have no idea why it's a public interest story.

It would be interesting to know how the printing of names on comments is decided. It is veryRead Moreintere sting to see a legal name on a few and nick names on a larger number of comments. Just a feeling that it isn't a very nice thing. You didn't leave a way to make a choice. tulip

It's pretty much all surfing anyway - people can walk 50'

Not sure it matters to much what it's called. Does the town have the right to say what people canRead Moreo r cannot do in water which they don't own? It's the ocean. Last I checked Manasquan doesn't hold title to that. Not sure they really do to the beachfront either. Do what you want. Everyone else does.

Hi Kent, this concerns me as well, having been on Whiting 2 all my life (Doc Tallon's Grandson).Read More H ere is the ruling as I understand it. Resolution 192-2014..... ...The Mayor and Council of the Borough of Manasquan hereby temporary amends this provision of code under the following conditions: 1) Approximately 100 additional yards of beach area north from the Perch Avenue Jetty will be allowed for surfing during May 15 to September 15. 2)This resolution is a temporary moratorium of the provisions of 12-4.23 regarding the use of surfing area between May 15 and September 15 only. All other provision remains in effect. 3) This resolution sunsets after September 15, 2014. Considerations for future season must be renewed by resolution or amended by ordinance. 4) This resolution takes effect immediately upon adoption by the Governing Body.

Maybe I am behind or this just posted late, but weren't petitions certified and a referendum isRead Morenece ssary and must be held between Aug / Sept? Several petition leaders were quoted as saying everyone wants the pavilions rebuilt so it should pass. One has to wonder what Pringle would have done as Mayor in the same situation i.e. storm Sandy damage. Would he have been bullied by the locals into submission or just done what he thought was best. Many people in Belmar seem to want their taxes reduced by the beach utility and the revenue that comes from beachgoers but don't want to spend money in order to make money. You can't have it both ways.
Dave Schneck June 11, 2014 at 08:28 PM
We are not allowed to make money for the town from the beach utility. And yes, we all wantRead Morepavilion s….but not at any price. $7 million is like double what they should cost.
