Who Won The Presidential Debate?

Barack Obama and Mitt Romney duked it out in Denver, Colo.

President Barack Obama and Republican candidate Mitt Romney faced off in the first of three presidential debates Wednesday night. The debate was held at the University of Denver in Colorado.

President Obama, 51, vying for his second term, was leading by four percentage points in a national poll over challenger Mitt Romney, 65, before the debate. However, political pundits and speculation on Huffington Post questioned whether the debate could change the standings.

The candidates are expected to debate each other two more times - once on Oct. 16 and once on Oct. 22. The topics for those debates will be domestic policy on the 16th and foreign policy on the 22nd.

Even a small bump from Wednesday night's domestic policy forum could make the race much closer. Obama entered the debate with only a slight lead according to the polls of two key states, Virginia and Florida, said the Huffington Post. Those states are must-win states for Romney, the Republican challenger.

Did you watch the debate? If you did, what did you think? Was there a clear winner? Did one politician shine above the other. Vote in the Patch poll below.

Romney was the grown up in the room. Presidential, professional, business-like, informed, confident, comfortable, happy. Obama looked irritated, unprepared, angry, incompetent.

Not even close. Romney totally dominated: on substance, demeanor, clarity, passion, and vision. The President almost appeared befuddled.

Then you're not a Democrat. A true party person votes party all the way down the line. You're an Independent who would like to be a Democrat but just can't quite make the grade.

Wait a minute....I am a registered Republican....I lean more to the Right. However I am an Independent.... I just think I should be allowed to vote in the primaries without having to declare a party... However at one point I was a true GOP all the way...things changed in the last years that have made me want to be more independent than anything.

I do think Nobama was horrible last night. This is what thinking on his own does ... a true sign of why he would rather party then do something productive FOR AMERICA.

GJC - not about "making the grade" - it's about the fact that neither party has a monopoly on "right/wrong", "liberal/conservative", or even "left/right".

Go to it, KC - vote for the best choice, not the lever pull that's in the column for "one" of your choices - and, if you aren't sure, don't pull that "one" lever.

When Rachel Maddow, Bill Maher and Chris Matthews think that Romney won the debate, it was a bad night for the President. Let's hope he has many more.

By far, Romney dominated this debate. Obama very seldom looked directly at Romney. Obama seemed pissed and kept looking down in order to hide his anger.

Obama gave facts. Romney has no idea what cuts he'd make yet. He has to take the knife to the budget to pay for increased defense spending and tax cuts. This will affect us we deserve the right to know details.

I'm supposed to discuss where I would trim the budget in the debate next Tuesday - I'll give you my answer now...we haven't produced a budget to trim. Want to know where I would cut EXPENDITURES? I have several answers on that, but I will give them on Tuesday. Those who are following what we're up to already know - those who oppose us don't get a free look.

And he didn't. Let's give someone else a chance to fix this country. Can anyone say...President Romney. :)

President Obama was exposed not only as mediocre without pre scripted notes, but as someone that could not defend his record.
The US has a 15% poverty rate, average salary has decreased by 8%, unemployment is too high, just as foreclusores, and our national debt.
It is time for a change. Romney shows class, and has a plan. Obama should be fired!

Romney dominated the debate. Obama should stick to delivering speeches at his church using his adopted southern preacher tone. Obama can only appeal to the misinformed, misguided and those who choose to consume psychedelic drugs.

Thanks for clearing that up for us Mitt. The far-right and the 1% have switched positions overnight and now embrace the middle class and small business owners. And here I thought their greedy practice of by-passing America's middle class for cheaper foreign labor and irresponsible inhumane working conditions would last forever in today's worldwide economies. Then again, I had overlooked the fact that these foreign countries offering such shameful working conditions were the only ones we haven't invaded in the last couple of decades. After all, cutting out the middle man is always more profitable, and matched with the unscrupulous war profits, it’s a double bonanza. However, it probably is the only ways we will ever settle our debt with China while providing America’s middle class one last brief hurrah.

Jeffrey Sachs, sometimes described as the world's most famous economist, told me he thought adding half a trillion dollars on to http://www.outletcoachstoday.com the deficit without a plan http://www.coachoutletod.com was "rather shocking". He did not feel Obama's http://www.coachs-outletcar.com administration was dealing with the http://www.coachoutletdp.com fundamental problems of a deeply unequal and http://www.coachoutletwo.com under-invested economy, which had exported too http://www.coachfactoryoutletsp.com many jobs abroad."This is not http://www.coachfactoryoutletli.net a country in good shape. We have 15% http://www.coachfactoryoutletce.org of the population in poverty, we have one http://www.coachoutletonlinelc.net in six or one in seven http://www.coachoutletonlinesc.com on food stamps, we have http://www.coachoutletonlinelsa.com about half of our households within at least twice the http://www.louisvuittonoutletct.com poverty line or below, meaning http://www.louisvuittonoutletti.org that we have a staggering share http://www.coachoutletrf.com of America that is financially http://www.coachfactoryonlinebp.com struggling right now."Certainly, it is that sense http://www.coachoutletuser.net of a struggling middle class that has dogged Obama's campaign and given Romney some of his best lines.
