Timeline for Rebuilding Manasquan, Belmar Area After Hurricane Sandy

A look ahead to coming deadlines, benchmarks, and other scheduled construction

Ongoing:

Belmar continues to lay boardwalk decking as part of the massive $6.59 million rebuilding of its destroyed boardwalk.

Manasquan began this week to shift sand on its beachfront in the next step in rebuilding its beach.

Feb. 26: A federally-contracted vehicle will drive around Manasquan, testing its sensory equipment, and seeing how successfully it can gather first floor elevations. Manasquan authorized the pilot program, partnering with FEMA as it tries out new mapping technology.

March 3: Belmar reopens Ocean Avenue for the day to accommodate St. Patrick's Day parade traffic. The beachfront road has been closed since Hurricane Sandy, and remains closed for beach reconstruction.

March 28: Manasquan's permit fee waiver for storm-related construction permits has been extended to March 28. The fee waiver includes storm-related demolition permits, repairs and rehabilitation. The raising and rebuilding of structures, such as new construction will require permit fees, and is not covered under the fee waiver.

April 30: Belmar established a deadline for the boardwalk rebuilding contract. If Epic Construction has the boardwalk completed by April 30, the company receives a bonus, and if not, it will start accruing daily fines.

Memorial Day Weekend: Bradley Beach and Belmar are among the towns planning to have their boardwalks open for Memorial Day.

June 1: Sea Girt plans to have its boardwalk open, from Beacon to New York.
