Multiple Teens Among Those Arrested for DWI Sunday
Spring Lake Heights release weekend police blotter
Spring Lake Heights Police made several arrests for drugs and alcohol over the weekend, including a report of a teen erratically riding a bicycle, and a 16 year-old unlicensed driver allegedly in possession of drugs while driving under the influence. Each of the arrests were on Route 71.
Officer Zachary Ramp of Spring Lake Heights Police said the arrests were made March 3, with one coming at 1 a.m. for a 16 year-old riding erratically down Route 71 on a bicycle.
Police responded to the 300 block of Route 71 for a report of a juvenile on a bike without a helmet, riding erratically at 1 a.m. Sunday. Ptl. Kenneth Hager stopped the teen to investigate, and allegedly found the teen was in possession of a controlled dangerous substance. Ramp said juvenile charges were sent to Monmouth County Family Division and the teen was released to their parent.
Two arrests were made around 5:30 p.m. on Route 71 Sunday.
At 5:23 p.m. Ramp stopped a vehicle in the 1000 block of Hwy 71 for motor vehicle violations. The driver was an unlicensed 16 year old juvenile from Wall Township, and the driver was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated. Additionally juvenile charges were sent to Monmouth County Family Court for possession of CDS and drug paraphernalia. The teen was released to their guardian, Ramp said.
Minutes later near the 300 block of Route 71, a 21-year old Sea Girt man was stopped and charged with DWI. At 5:30 p.m. Det. Michael Matunas stopped the vehicle for motor vehicle violations and arrested the man for DWI.
Ramp said another traffic stop for motor vehicle violations led to an arrest for DWI later that evening. At 8:40 p.m. Ptl. Raymond Kwiatkowski stopped a vehicle in the 400 block of Hwy 71 for motor vehicle violations. The driver, a 22 year-old Englishtown man was arrested and charged with DWI. Ptl. Kwiatkowski made the arrest.

How is this a 'waist' of tax dollars? This is how the town makes money. They get thousands in fines for these violations!

@ Police State - nice spelling, "waist" vs "waste." So drugs and alcohol should be transported down Hwy 71 under normal circumstances, by minors? One on a bike at 1 a.m. (on a school night), the other an unlicensed, underaged driver - DUI + drugs. You're a "waist" of space...

Whatever it takes to save the lives of our youth! In my opinion, its a good "waist" of tax $$..Monmouth/Ocean Counties have lost too many teens needlessly, because of drugs alcohol. and vehicles!

I think the police should sit outside every bar at closing time and politely interview every patron that looks drunk. If the patron appears to be unable to drive safely the bar should pay for a cab ride home. No other questions, no accusations, just get the person home safely.

Why would it be the bars responsibility to pay for a cab ride home? Clearly the patron had enough money to get wasted, they should be able to get a cab ride home. I am 23 years old and have always found a way to get home safely without getting behind the wheel of a vehicle, or endangering others. This country has to stop giving handouts. Just because you act like an idiot, the government should not come bail you out. If you hold people’s hands, and make life easy for them. people will never learn, and we will be left in a world worse than this one.

I drive a cab & it always amazes me how so many people will gladly pay $10 or more just to walk through the door of a bar for the privilege of speending $8 & more per drink, but then balk at spending $5-$10 to get safely home!

Anyone wonder where the parents of a 16 yr old on drugs on a bike at 1 a.m., or those of another unlicensed driving under the influence, and with drugs were at during these times? Let's guess, the parade all day maybe getting hammered themselves? At what time of day on a Sunday night after the annual drink-fest do parents now expect their kids to be home for school the next morning? As to the adults getting popped for DUI after the parade, well you knew better. It's not like this doesn't happen every year.
